The old playbook is played out. Whether it be ever widening inequality; digital transformation; the revolutions in information, AI, energy, and other technologies; climate; societal fractures; demographics; or geopolitical realignment – change is happening everywhere and fast.
Our old trade and economic policies offer few solutions and over time, they've done their share in contributing to the challenges we are facing today.
What we need is a new trade policy and a new way of making that policy.
New trade policy must be connected: to other policy areas and to the interests of the people that comprise the economy. New trade and economic policies need to be clear, reliable, and serve all of us better.
They need to raise standards instead of eroding them. Foster communities instead of starving them. They need to value people and the planet we share, rather than exploiting them. And empower and provide instead of demeaning and extracting.
Bridging the gap
Our goal is to bridge the gap between the policy roundtables of conference presentations, spreadsheets, and white papers and the everyday kitchen table where people share their frustrations about what isn't working in their lives and their hopes about how this could all be better and more fair.
Please join us in forging a coalition and a trade policy that will create the new economy that we all deserve.
